In Gifted Math, we work at least one grade level above a student's chronological grade. We are virtually paperless (some art projects cannot be completed online) and use a variety of multimedia sources to help our understanding of math and its use in our world around us.
Our topics will center around those themes, while including the Common Core State Standards. Students will be expected to master both their chronological grade level's standards as well as the standards one grade level above. We also refer to NWEA MAP testing results to strengthen the Five Strands of Math. After Fall MAP testing, students receive an IXL Prescription Chart. This is an individualized program linking NWEA MAP and IXL. It's purpose is to strengthen any areas of weakness as well as continue to support areas of strength.
In addition to a rigorous Math curriculum, students will be exposed to many projects based on real-life situations they will encounter in the future, including - but not limited to - balancing debit accounts, budgeting for vacations, and determining tax and tip at a restaurant.
